research into established artist

Adeles first video -chasing pavements

Adeles latest video- Rolling in the deep

Much of of her themes that were created in her first album 19 was pretty much about love, being cheated on and her road to adulthood. She presented herself in an innocent way making way for listeners to feel connected to her song words and soulful voice. With the video chasing pavements you feel captivated by the couples love story and we are witnessing it from the same perpective as Adele is. Her image on top of that was presented to be very stripped down leaving nothing but the music itself. Her second album 21 continued with the theme of love but this time the hatred andhurt came in and we are seen a glimspe of her emotions from the music video to rolling in the deep. Although she does not do much physically, the shatterring glass speaks for her emotions itself. Her image remained the same but due to her massive success she improved her looks through styling and grooming of the hair. Yet again Adeles main focus is not for the audience to relate to her in terms of her image but in terms of her music.

CD cover analysis

The main image of the artist- This is a front cover photo of Duffy's album
which is called Rockaferry. She appears to be
dressed very formally which reveals her
personality in nature is very much
sophisticating. This would also reveal her
target audience to being adults between the
ages of 25-50. Her posture seems very humble
as she appears to be looking down as if she
were in deep thought. This would also go
against the way artists directly gaze at the
camera on album covers.
composition and layout- Duffy here is placed at the centre which would
connote her importance and it is shown through a
long medium shot of her standing near what appears
to be a train that could only be running outside of
London which suggests she is from someplace else
in the United Kingdom.

Typography- The font of this album cover appears to be bold and simple much
like her music appears to be.
The overall shot of this album cover is in black and white. Black and
white shots are normally used to portray a past memory and maybe the use
of this shows her songs her reminders of her past memories and experiences
in life.

Themes for our music video

Our initial ideas that are going to be in cooperated into our music video in terms of themes are going to be :

-- The feeling of seclusion (loneliness)
-- path to hopefulness

The first theme which is the feeling of loneliness implies mainly to the lyrics of the song. The lyrics expresses obvious meanings such as being isolated from society but it could also have other meanings such as not only from society but from other aspects of life such as love, friends, family and so on. The words of the song do not lead the meaning to only one direction that is just being isolated from society, it leaves the listener to wonder for themselves as to what they feel is missing in their own life.

The second theme is going to be in cooperated into our video because towards the end of the song there is a sentence that is sung which is "so I go picking up the pieces". This may mean that the singer has a sudden sense of why she was feeling isolated and the steps she has to take to overcome it. This could relate to music videos from artists in the jazz/indie genre because when their song is about a loss of a loved one for instance they would always put lyrics that could be uplifting and this seems to be applied here as well.

video ideas for our music video

lyrics for floating by Goda and the Zoo

The length of the song is 4 .06 minutes long

verse1--- wondering round this old townjust being washed up with the rain
------reference to her emotions aswell they're being washed up--
walking in the shoes of strangers people's lives will never meet
lost and found i caught myself down and being bound, floating around
--shes feeling trapped but also free at the same time---
following the patterns of the street unfamiliar normal things
---unfamiliar and normal have the opposite meanings---
getting lost in this old town is there any way out

chorus---- lost and found i called myself down not being bound, floating
around.
lost and found i called myself down
not being bound floating floating around
-----The end of the chorus is around 2.09----
GUITAR SOLO Guitar plays for 43 secs. Shots of streets are shown
here.

chorus---lost and found i called myself down not being bound, floating
around

verse2----finding my way through this tangled up placethrough with dismays
so i go picking up the piece she stops here and picks up some
of this puzzle i won't complete

chorus-- lost and found i called myself down being bound, floating around

The idea of the song from the lyrics is mainly about street life in other meanings about society in the streets. Her wandering around feeling secluded from the strangers that walk past her, she has a sense of the unknown. Her everyday environment is the streets that she lives in and at the same time the objects and people that fill these streets seem like total strangers to her.
